Description

Vibralizer is a music visualizer for the streaming age. Vibralizer is both the name of our product and the name of our company. We're a small two-person team based in Nashville, Tennessee.

History

Origins

The story of Vibralizer is kind of the story of us, Kate and Nick. We met in late 2022, the week after Kate defended her PhD on the evolution of birdsong. Nick has been a game developer for over a decade now and has shipped titles on all consoles and platforms. From the start, our relationship has been defined by us ping-ponging ideas around and asking “what if?” Out of all our harebrained ideas, the one we kept coming back to is the one we were both most passionate about from the beginning: resurrecting the humble music visualizer.

AI Slop and Hearing Loss

We kept seeing hints that we needed to do this. A party, with only looping videos appearing on the TV that was playing music. Game night with friends, where music was playing in the background and some AI slop video of “trippy visuals” occupying the screen. In an age of AI visuals and halfhearted efforts to connect visuals to music, we wanted to provide an alternative. The other motivation was Kate’s hearing loss. She was diagnosed and started wearing hearing aids in 2020. As her hearing worsened, she noticed that she was no longer hearing certain details of music she knew by heart. Spectral representations of sound, like the spectrograms she used to study birdsong, allow her to see the details that she cannot hear.

Getting Real

We started seriously building Vibralizer at the beginning of 2025. We committed to never using AI-generated imagery in our visualizations. Instead, we hand-craft all of our Vibes. We wanted to make an application that is simple to use. We wanted to harness the power of seeing sound. We invite you along for the ride!
